What is IBPS?

IBPS Exam :Institute of Banking Personnel Selection commonly known as IBPS is a very famous exam for getting jobs in Government and Non-Government Banks. IBPS is a self-directing agency in India.

History of IBPS :

This Agency had started long back in the year 1975. In 1975 it started its large-scale farming business as Personnel Selection Services (PSS). It was in 1984 , that Reserve Bank of India and other Public Sector Bank commanded IBPS as an independent entity. The mission of IBPS is enhancing human resource development through personnel assessment. IBPS is visualized as a sovereign academy and research oriental institute.

CWE which is Common Written Entrance was started by IBPS in 2011. IBPS made it compulsory for the candidates who wanted to recruit themselves as an officer and clerks of Indian Banks.

Common Written Entrance is popularly known as CWE. Every candidate who aspires to get a job in the bank has to apply online for this entrance exam. Once in a year, IBPS accepts the application from aspiring candidates, it is particular in the month January. The application form is filled online but its examination is held had various different centers, located all over India.

Candidates have to give this entrance examination in 3 states i.e.;

  1. Preliminary exam
  2. Mains examination
  3. Interview

IBPS Recruitment:

IBPS recruitment process is 2 or 3 level selection process. IBPS recruits the passing candidates in different Public Sector Banks, SBI, Associate Bank of SBI, RBI, NABARD, SIDBI, few Co. op. Banks, Insurance & LIC . All these banks are regular members of IBPS club. Apart from this, there are many other Regional Rural Banks, many Public Sector Undertakings of non-financial sectors, Government sectors, State-owned companies and corporations, in which passing candidates are recruited. It recruits the candidates according to the requirements of Banks.IBPS Recruitment Process

After clearing the three step procedure candidates are accordingly recruited either for Bank Probationary officer or Management Trainees or Bank clerk.

IBPS CLERK Eligibility (2016-2017)

1. Academic Qualification:

Candidate should be a graduate from any University which is recognized by the Government of India. Graduation can be done in any of their desired streams.
The Else candidate had passed any equivalent qualification which is recognized by the central Government of India.

2. Computer Literacy:

It is necessary for the candidates to have knowledge in computer. They should hold certificates or diploma or else Degree in computer programming and operations.
The candidates who have studied computer/ Information Technology in their High School/ college/ in any institute can also apply for this examination.

3. Language Literacy :

Candidates should know the language of the State / UT they want to apply for.
Candidates should know to read and write or speak the regional language of the place they desire to get recruited.
(At the time of Interview few questions can be asked in the regional language so as to know their knowledge of the language.)

4. Ex- servicemen:

All ex – servicemen who fail  to have  above qualification , can also enroll themselves.
The ex-servicemen who had been in series for at least 15 years in Army/ Navy / Airforce can also apply for this examination.

5. Age Limit:

The maximum age limitation is 28 years
The minimum age limitation is 20 years.

Special Relaxation:
In the Table given below there is upper age limit relaxation given to the specific category :

IBPS PO/MT Eligibility 2016-2017

1.Academic Qualification:

  • All the educational qualification should be from the universities / institutes recognized by the Government of India/ should be approved by Government regulatory boards. The candidate should have passed their graduation on or before 1st august 2015.
  • Candidate should be a graduate from any University which is recognized by the Government of India. Graduation can be done in any of their desired streams. The Else candidate had passed any equivalent qualification which is recognized by the central Government of India.
  • Candidate should have legitimate mark sheet/ passing certificated stating that he/she has graduated on so-and-so date, and has obtained so many marks and percentage.
  • The origin documents and certificates received from any Board/ Universities should be produced at the time of Interview.
  • Candidates are supposed to bring out nearest decimal numbers percentage of their total marks obtained.
  • If their marks are in CGPA/ OGPA still they will have to remove the percentage of it .
  • This is applicable to all they Universities and all they different types of Universities Registered under Government of India.
  • If in case any Candidate has scored 59.99% then it will 60% , in the same way, all the fractions of percentage so obtained will be round-figured.

IBPS SO eligibility 2016-2017

  • Bank SO officer mean Specialist Officer.
  • For this post, there are Scale I and Scale II .
  • In Scale I, only those candidates who have born after /on 02:11: 1983  but not before that , and who had born on/ before 01:11:1993 .
  • In scale II , those candidates are included who have born on/ after 02:11:1978 and on / before 01:11:1993.

Note:

  1. Candidates can simultaneously  apply for two different posts like Post of Office Assistant ( Multi- purpose) or post of Officers.
  2. Candidates cannot apply for two officers post simultaneously like he can apply only for the post of scale I or scale II officer or scale III.
  3. All the academic qualification mentioned above should be from recognized University/ Board.

IBPS Exam Pattern:

IBPS Exam PatternIBPS agency conducts CWE examination once in a year. It is a three-step examination .

  1. Preliminary Examination
  2. Mains Examination
  3. Interview Selection

Both Prelims and Mains are objective based questions carrying 100 and 200 marks respectively .

I.Subjects of Preliminary Examination (100 marks):

  1. Reasoning Ability Paper (35 marks)
  2. Quantitative Aptitude Paper (35 marks)
  3. English Language Paper (30 marks)

Note: Duration of this examination is 1 hour.

II.Subjects of Main IBPS Exam (200 marks) :

  1. Reasoning (50 marks)
  2. English Language (40 marks)
  3. Quantitative Aptitude (50 marks)
  4. General Awareness (40 marks)
  5. Computer Knowledge (20 marks)

Note: Duration of this examination is 2 hour.

III.Common Interview:

  1. Candidates who will successfully clear the Pre & Main IBPS exam will be notified to come for an interview.
  2. This personal interview session carries 100 marks .
  3. Minimum marks which a candidate can avail in an interview is not less than 40 and for SC/ST it is not less than 35 marks.
  4. Both the marks of CWE and interview will be taken into account , and then placement of the candidates will be made as per their ranking.

Documents to be carried while appearing for an interview:

  1. A copy of an IBPS application form.
  2. Call Letter of IBPS (Affixed with a photo and signature of a candidate).
  3. Photo identity proof.
  4. Graduation Mark Sheet.
  5. Certificate of work experience ( if any ).
  6. Medical certificate of Physically disabled candidate.
  7. Fresh and original copy of character Certificate from any respectable person.

Charges of application fee are Rs. 600 for General category

There are four different positions available for the candidates who give IBPS exam:

— Clerk Cum Cashier/ Office Assistant :

For the first time, job seekers in bank Clerk are the starting point of their career in banking.

The duties of the clerk are to take care of general branch banking like managing accounts or create reports or interacting with customers or any other work specialized by the bank.

Especially in Government Banks Clerks are given the work of managing the cash counters who take care of day to day transactions.

— Probationary officer :

PO`s are trained in different departments in the bank and they will help their manager in various activities.

Many bank PO has reached highest position in the bank like MD & CEO banks.

Bank PO is a higher post then bank clerk. His salary is also higher than a clerk.

Roles and duties of Bank PO:

  • Customer Service:

Open new accounts, handle any other bank product, cash deposit, and withdrawal, account statement required of any of another document such as forms and issuing cheque books. etc. Bank PO will manage these types of  works on a daily basis. Basically, it is to handle customer and solve their queries.

  • Account Related:

By account related duties mean opening account, closing account , closing dead account,providing all the necessary requirements of banks like checkbook, cashbook slip etc.,

  • Cash Handling:

Due to over burden of work,  this work is also handed over to PO . Even the cash in ATMs is sometimes taken care by bank PO.

  • Payment Clearance:

All types of transactions like Demand Draft (DD), Cheques, NEFT, RTGS and other payment methods. It is the duty of PO to manage all clearance system.

  • Loan Processing:

Department  trains you for loan related  products that how to sell and what to sell and how to convince customer and giving complete knowledge about the product. On being fresher, they are given the work of explaining the bank schemes to customers in order to get a loan .

  • Generate New Business:

They also have to make advertisement of Bank scheme, open new accounts, selling insurance , loans etc., they have to enhance the business of the bank.

  • ATM Related Queries:

They can also be assigned ATM related question like ATM lost, ATM pin, ATM blocking, the issue of new ATM card, card stuck in ATM, Cash is not received through ATM and much more.

  • Reporting & verification:

Bank PO can also be asked to manually verify the whole account , its debit and credit balance and report the same.

— Specialist Officer :

As the post reads “specialist officer”, the work is similar.  SO is in-charge of special departments like Management, Engineering, systems Marketing, Public Relation & many other posts

Specialist Officer examines the companies that apply for a loan and also check their capacity to pay back the loan.

For the post of SO Candidates of special qualification are selected. For example, candidates having special knowledge in computers or B.E. in computers.

In Specialist officer also comes Agricultural officer, Let’s see its duties:

Agricultural officers:

As there are many government schemes and also many Public sector Banks to assist Farmers, Agricultural Officers are recruited to help them, to check and provide proper guidance and advice to farmers or people related to farming activities.

Although the post for Agricultural officers is limited, still people having any qualification in agriculture/ horticulture/  veterinary Science are given preferences.

— Managers/ Asst. Managers :

This post is mostly filled by promotions which are held in the banks.

Exception : when any candidate appears who has done MBA and have 3 to 5 years of experience in any bank  such candidates are given preference.

Note : the above-mentioned post is for the Public Sector Banks

Private Sector Banks have other posts including these. Post depends on the management and requirements of the bank.

Salary and Allowances

IBPS Salary

Salary of Bank Clerk

1.Basic Salary:

The Initial salary of Bank Clerk is RS. 7200/-.
Every Bank gives 2 increments of RS. 400/-
Total Monthly Salary of Bank Clark is 7200 +800 = 8000/- RS.

2. Increments

There is an increase in a number of increments after increase me years of services.
After 1 year of service number of increments increases from 2 to 3 .
After 2 to 3 years of service value of increment increase from 400 to 500/- RS.

3.Dearness Allowances (DA)
DA is charged as per consumer price index .
It is revised for every 3 months:

Jul-Aug-Sep
Oct-Nov-Dec

4.City Compensation Allowances [CCA]
Metro cities =4%
Other cities 3%
CCA is given to those employees who are appointed in big cities or metro cities.

5.Housing Rent Allowances [HRA] :
HRA also depends on the posting, in which city it is . HRA for
Metro cities = 10%
Goa + Population more than 12 lakhs =9%
Population more than 5 lakhs = 7.5 %
Other cities = 7%

6.Bank Clerk Salary after revision in 10th Bipartite Settlement:
If there is revision in the salary of  bank clerk then their salary be somewhere between 21,339 to 23,117 /-
It depends on how much increment does IBA increases.
If IBA increases the increment to 20% then Final basic payment will be RS. 15,374/-.
Total DA & HRA will increase to 38.80 % of basic pay .
Total Net income of bank clerk (fresher) will be RS. 21,339 /-

If IBA agrees for 25% increment then basic payment will be RS 16,015 /-.

Net Gross income will become RS.22,228/-

If IBA agrees for 30 % increment then basic income will be 16,655/-.

Then the gross salary for fresher clerk will be RS. 23,117 /-

Salary of Bank PO:

1.Basic salary

The basic salary of bank PO is RS. 23,700 /-
This salary is after revision of basic pay by IBA which is applicable from 1st January 2016.

2. Allowances :

Dearness Allowances-
DA depends on the economic status of the nation. It keeps on rising and falling .

HRA –
It depends on the location where PO is posted . HRA can be up to 9% ,8% or 7%.

Special Allowance-
Special allowances will be given on 10th BPS .
Special allowances for scale I officer is 7.75%
At the time of special allowances, DA is also applicable.

CCA-
This also depends on the place where the officer is posted.
It can be 4% – 3% but maximum it can be up to 800 RS.
There are chances where CCA can be 0%

Conveyance Allowances:
It is traveling allowance , depends on the distance between home and office.

3.Perks to the Bank Probationary officer-
Perks differ from Bank to the bank .Highest perk is offered by State Bank of India.

4. Travelling allowances-
Most of the bank gives the traveling allowances. Also, take off the petrol bills made by the officer while coming to office and going back home.

5. Medical Aid-
Revised price for medical aid to Po is RS. 8000/- pa

6. Newspaper Compensation-
Bank also makes payment for the newspaper of its officer.

7. Leased Housing-
It depends on the bank to bank and place to place. Most of the Bank also offers its own colony or housing under such condition this perk is not available. HRA and Leased housing are two different benefits.

Apart from this, there are many other perks depending on the bank:

  2. Promotion of the bank PO depends on the efficiency and hard work of an employee.
  3. You can reach to the post of General Manager after 14 years of hard work.
  4. Some banks also have branches outside the country there are chances that you may get posted abroad.

There are a chance of an increase in the wages of Bank PO if IBA permits it .

After the permission of IBA, the salary of bank PO will raise to –

  • Least Accommodation is of INR 29500/-. This is in place of HRA.

  • They also get reimbursement for newspaper, Conveyance, Entertainment allowance, Housing and Furniture Maintenance etc.,
  • For Scale, I officer Special allowance is at 7.75%
  • According to revised CPI by government DA is RS.8605.88/-
